Fitness fans who have been waiting all winter to take out their portable cricket nets and break a sweat in the sunshine will now be relieved the time has finally come to be able to do so.

The UK has experienced a harsh and stormy winter over the last few months, with the Met Office revealing it was the second wettest winter since records began in 1910, as a result of extreme rainfall in northern and western areas.

However, this week has seen the return of some sunshine, with temperatures between 12 and 16 degrees C in many areas of the country.

Those in Porthmadog, north Wales, were in for a real treat earlier this week, experiencing highs of 20.3 degrees C, meaning sports fans were able to bask in glorious sunshine as they practised their favourite pastime.

Wind and rain let up, allowing temperatures in England and Wales to reach unprecedented highs.

This is a far cry from the weather last weekend, when temperatures remained lower than ten degrees C and much of the country suffered from heavy rainstorms. Frost and snow was also experienced in South Yorkshire.

If you want to get fit for the spring/summer and feel your physical best again, make sure you prepare your body first.

Those who have not exercised over the winter should start off slowly so they do not cause themselves any injury. You should also fuel yourself with plenty of protein and healthy snacks, such as nuts and fruit, to give yourself an energy boost.
