It might have been outside a Wetherspoons pub with a makeshift set of cricket stumps, but it was a bad day for ex-England Cricket Team Captain Alec Stewart when he was bowled out for nothing by a youngster and had it caught on camera.

Armed with a plastic cricket bat, Alec strode confidently onto his concrete crease, ready to re-enact his glory days – however, shouts of ‘easy wicket’ seemed to be a premonition when a boy bowls striking the Wetherspoons menu board acting as stumps behind him. There were some pretty excited exclamations after that – and we imagine a bit of a red face for old Alec!

The video’s gone viral online, thanks in no short supply to 5live Sport host Mark Chapman, who tweeted it out to his 11,800 followers on Twitter, suggesting that the England legend just might have ‘lost it’.

Of course, we’re sure if Alec Stewart had been in the cricket nets, it’d have been a different story – after all, he’s the most capped England cricketer of all time in Test matches, scoring 8463 runs in his career as a Test match player. However, looking back at the cricketer’s batting average, we might get a glimpse into how he could let a ball or two slip past him..

To be fair, Alec has been retired for a few years now, and despite keeping his toe in the water as ‘Director of Cricket’ at his old club Surrey, he might still be a little out of practice. Let’s see if he’ll be looking to redeem himself after this little blooper.
