England are now pursuing their first Test series whitewash since the team beat India 4-0 back in 2011, after claiming a nine-wicket win in the second Test against Sri Lanka at Emirates Riverside to secure the series.

While James Anderson was named man of the match with figures of 8-94 taking his tally to 18 with a 7.72 average, captain Alastair Cook became the first Englishman to score 10,000 Test runs, Sky Sports reports.

For the third test, England haven’t changed the team up, so Chris Woakes will keep his spot in place of the injured Ben Stokes. Jake Ball, meanwhile, will have to continue waiting for his England debut as the side resists resting Anderson, Steven Finn or Stuart Broad.

No doubt England will be hoping they can continue with their present form when they reach Lord’s, no matter how mixed their record is there. Last year, the hosts lost against Australia, although haven’t lost back-to-back Tests at Lord’s this century.

The Sri Lanka match will be the eighth time England has faced off against the team at the venue, with the visitors still on the hunt for their first win there. The last four meetings have all been draws.

Thus far, England have won the toss and chosen to bat first, but it looks as though the hosts are struggling a bit, with Joe Root, Nick Compton and James Vince all failing with the bat – despite Alastair Cook bringing up his 48th international half-century in 89 balls.
