Ireland is set to play a one-day international (ODI) game against the West Indies in September 2017 on their home territory.

The game, which will take place on September 13th, will also see Ireland come face-to-face with their former national team coach Phil Simmons, who is currently leading the West Indies side.

Simmons said he is “really looking forward” to bringing his team to Ireland, adding: “I had eight great years there as a coach and made some lasting friendships as well as winning trophies.”

The Trinidadian coach, who previously guided Ireland to a victory against West Indies in the 2015 World Cup with the help from players like Paul Stirling, Niall Obrien and Ed Joyce, said it should be a “tough contest”.

Simmons was in the role for eight years and led Ireland to both the 2011 and 2015 World Cup tournaments. During his time with Ireland, the side won 11 trophies.

This game will come ahead of the West Indies ODI in England, with the Irish weather helping to prepare the Caribbean side for the latter competition.

Before this, Ireland will play Bangladesh and New Zealand in May next year on their home soil. They will compete against Bangladesh on Friday May 12th, before coming face-to-face with New Zealand on Sunday May 14th.

New Zealand will then play Bangladesh on Wednesday May 17th, before Ireland competes with Bangladesh for a second time two days later and once again with New Zealand on Sunday May 21st.
