James Middlebrook, former Yorkshire all-rounder, will be making a return to the cricket stumps and his home county after being released by Northamptonshire at the end of the last season, filling in for Adil Rashid, who will be touring the West Indies with England.

The 37-year-old – who played for the Tykes from 1998 to 2001 – said the call came completely unexpectedly but he’s very excited to be making his second debut with the club.

“Yorkshire are a talented side with some great players. I’ll do my job and hopefully help the lads get a win against Warwickshire,” he remarked.

First team coach and former Australia paceman Jason Gillespie said the decision to turn to Middlebrook was based on his experience as a player, leaving him perfectly placed to come and help Yorkshire out in the short term after the team were left with Rashid and Karl Carver in the spin department.

Yorkshire will take on Warwickshire at Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds between April 26th and 29th, with the 12-man squad including Jack Brooks, Matthew Fisher, Tim Bresnan, captain Andrew Gale, wicketkeeper Andrew Hodd, Alex Lees, Jack Leaning, Steve Patterson, Richard Pyrah, Cheteshwar Pujara, Will Rhodes and, of course, James Middlebrook.

Later on this year, they face Hampshire at Headingley between the 10th and 13th, and later they’ll play Somerset at the County Ground in Taunton between the 24th and 27th.

Tickets for all matches are available to buy on the day via the ticket office on St Michael’s Lane. There will also be a cash only turnstile open on Kirkstall Lane for the Royal London One-Day Cup and all LV= County Championship matches.
