If you spend an awful lot of time at the cricket practice nets and consider yourself to be an excellent cricket teacher, then you might want to put yourself forward for a new competition being organised by Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and Chance to Shine.

Phil Tufnell, one-time England cricketer, is heading up the campaign, scouring the length and breadth of the country to find the best cricket coach out there in primary and secondary schools. The competition will close on July 7th and teachers can be nominated by their pupils, a fellow teacher or a coach.

The winner will be selected based on enthusiasm and passion for the sport, willingness to teach in line with the MCC Spirit of Cricket message of play hard, play fair, the drive to encourage pupils to play at school and local clubs, and an understanding of how the sport can help youngsters in both the playground and the classroom alike.

“We would like to recognise the hard work teachers do both in encouraging boys and girls to play cricket, and in promoting the Play Hard, Play Fair message. I would like to encourage anyone who knows a teacher deserving of this award to enter the competition and we look forward to welcoming the winner to Lord’s in July,” MCC chief executive Derek Brewer said.

To help your teaching of the sport, why don’t you download the latest MCC app to be developed, this time on the Laws of Cricket. It comes with easy-to-understand instructions for all 42 laws, as well as new imagery and a quiz your kids can take.
