Radford Ezy Nets installed at UCT (University of Cape Town)

UCT launched the opening of 3 Radford Ezy synthetic cricket nets on the Groote Schuur Oval on the 12 November 2013. This was a conclusion of a 2 year project that the UCT Cricket Club, Ryan Maron (UCT Cricket Coach) and UCT Sport & Recreation have been working on. Funding was obtained by the Oppenheimer Trust and UCT Capital Grant fund.

Out of a number of companies, Radford Ezy Net Limited was chosen due to its unique dynamic stone base structure, 22m long netting (ensure safety of players) and a demountable/retractable net structure with fly ball roof net to assist spin bowlers. The stone base is seen as a more real cricket playing surface to concrete which is very bouncy. Concrete nets are no longer been erected in the UK and systems such as the Ezy net are seen as more viable solutions to assist with training.

Justin Connors (Turfworks) and his staff installed the nets with Neal Radford’s workers (Paul and Richard) from the UK in the first week of November 2013.

The UCT Cricket Club will now boast 8 grass nets and 3 state of the art artificial nets which are the first to appear in Africa allowing the Cricket Club to train all year round and accommodate many more student players.
